Simultaneous Resection of Gastric Primary Tumour and Synchronous Liver Metastases: Survival Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Gastric carcinoma is the major cause of cancer related deaths in China (Zhang et al., 2014). Due to the unspecific symptoms at an early stage and lack of a screening schedule, the majority of patients with gastric cancer are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Liver is a frequent organ of distant metastases from gastric cancer, and the incidence of liver metastases from primary gastric cancer ranges from 5 to 9% (Thelen et al., 2008). The effect of surgical resection of liver metastasis from gastric cancer remains unclear. A key question was whether simultaneous resection of liver metastases provided any long-term survival benefit. Because patients with liver metastases from gastric carcinoma usually associated with extrahepatic disease, such as peritoneal dissemination, lymph node metastasis, and direct cancer invasion of other organs (Ambiru et al., 2001; Morise et al., 2008; Tiberio et al., 2009), only a few of them are candidates for hepatic resection. There is increasing

Prognostic analysis of combined curative resection of the stomach and liver lesions in 30 gastric cancer patients with synchronous liver metastases
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer with synchronous liver metastasis remains a clinical treatment challenge. There has been a longstanding debate on the question whether surgical resection could be beneficial to long-term survival. This study is to investigate the effectiveness and prognostic factors of combined curative resection of the stomach and liver lesions in gastric cancer patients with synchron...
متن کاملIs liver resection in metastases of exocrine pancreatic carcinoma justified?
From 1971 to 1995 we have performed 23 liver resections in 22 patients because of hepatic metastases of pancreatic (n = 20) or ampullary (n = 2) carcinomas. In 16 patients the hepatic secondaries were removed synchronously with the pancreatic primary tumour. In 7 cases liver resection was performed for metachronous metastases. Only one patient died after simultaneous resection of liver and panc...
متن کاملPrognosis of gastric cancer with liver metastases after simultaneous primary tumor and liver resections
Objective: To investigate the prognostic factors of gastric cancer with liver metastases after simultaneous primary tumor and liver resections. Methods: The clinical data of 21 gastric cancer cases with liver metastases that were treated with simultaneous primary tumor and liver resections during the period of February 1999 to December 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Results: The in-hospita...
متن کاملRadiofrequency ablation is beneficial in simultaneous treatment of synchronous liver metastases and primary colorectal cancer
BACKGROUND In patients with resectable synchronous colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), either two-staged or simultaneous resections of the primary tumor and liver metastases are performed. Data on radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for the treatment of CRLM during a simultaneous procedure is lacking. The primary aim was to analyze short-term and long-term outcome of RFA in simultaneous treatment. A ...
متن کاملColorectal cancer liver metastases - understanding the differences in the management of synchronous and metachronous disease.
INTRODUCTION Metastatic disease to the liver in colorectal cancer is a common entity that may present synchronously or metachronously. While increasing surgical experience has improved survival outcomes, some evidence suggest that synchronous lesions should be managed differently. This review aims to update current literature on differences between the outcomes and management of synchronous and...
